Riverdale splash pad hours to stay the same

RIVERDALE -- After debating noise issues and researching hours of operation at other community splash pads, Riverdale city council members refused a chance to change the hours and days of operation of their splash pad.

The hours will remain 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday; Wednesday noon to 8 p.m.; and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday through Sunday, Memorial Day through Labor Day.

A random survey provided by Riverdale community services staff shows that more Ogden (23.59 percent) and Roy (11.3 percent) residents used the Riverdale splash pad than Riverdale residents (9.57 percent). Of the 920 splash pad users sampled on eight random days in 2012, users also came from surrounding cities such as Washington Terrace, Layton, Clearfield, South Ogden, Clinton, North Ogden, Kaysville, Syracuse, Hooper, South Weber, West Point, Taylor, West Haven, Harrisville, Plain City, West Weber, Pleasant View, and Eden as well as other areas outside Weber County including Morgan, Logan, Brigham City, Tremonton, Wellington, Honeyville, Elwood, Bountiful and Farmington.

The survey also revealed that users found Riverdale’s splash pad “too busy” with too many smokers and not enough parking. Other comments revealed a need for changing tables in the restrooms and more pavilions,

Comments also praised the city’s splash pad, saying it was clean, had a lot of shade and was a great form of free entertainment.

At a June meeting, the council discussed changing splash pad hours and possibly closing it on Sundays.
